Sympathy of the Bicycle Devil

We had a 6-month bicycle tour of Europe planned. This weekend we would be sharing Science Friction in Sicily, Italy at "Vieni? - Catania PornFest". We are fortunate, had the trip started a month earlier we could be custody of who knows which state!

This caused us to wonder about those whom weren't as fortunate. How much do we engage with random people that cross our paths? Because as a clever bicycle pornographer once said, "Wandering males can be dangerous." But what of those cast out? Those perpetual wanderers whom bring news and share stories are still out there, still wandering, still trying to find their nourishment.

Public offerings of thoughts and prayers have become taboo (for good reason) but one of Bike Smut's greatest values is that of exploring taboo. So with that in mind we offer those largely empty words in the hopes that somehow, someway when expressed will result in someone, somewhere being given the inclination to whatever kindness they decide they can offer.

And perhaps this will make all the bike-fucking difference.

Sicily, What a Fucking Island

What a fabulous time on the island of Sicily!

A micro vacation in paradise with loads of hot bikers and perverts? We accept!

The Catania Bike Festival was a massive and well organized. With loads of bike events in a large park overlooking the Centro we had 3 days of spectacular views, races, activities, bike polo, entertainment, Critical Mass and of course bici porno!

They have some great people there working together to make great things happen. Zeronove, for example, is a grand bike shop / venue / culture gathering spot. Catania is lucky to have them.

Among the great things Catania has going for it include Europe's largest active volcano, Mt. Etna. Dwarfing Mt. Tabor (Portland's own volcano), Mt Etna covers an area 1506 times as large. Where you can ride the circle on top of Tabor in less than 60 seconds our circumnavigation of Etna took about 10 hours, alternating from pavement, to gravel, to sand, to wooded paths, to boulders, to expansive lava flows and back to pavement. But if the surface was varied the climate was constantly changing! On our circumnavigation our elevation was mostly between 1,500 and 2,200 meters and we got no shortage of weather. Full sun, driving rain, sleet, snow, and brisk winds so strong I found myself braking on an incline! After traveling and biking for so many years you start to think you have seen it all, then you realize you are accelerating beyond your comfort going uphill and you haven't pedaled in the past 30 seconds. That was different.

It took a little be of figuring out but we got a last minute show in Palermo. We do mean last minute. We found out about a show at Taverna Bukowski and asked to be added to the schedule the day before. An hour after the show was over we were on a ferry heading north to Genova to continue our Bicycle Fucking Tour d' Italia!

Can we bring more bikesexual excitement to Italy? YES WE CAN!

Happy MayDay! This month has a lot of beautiful bikers blooming already and now we have an updated Bike Fucking Tour 'd Italia plan!


We take a ferry from Sicily to Genoa then ride to the northwest of Italian city of Torino (famous for its Shrouds and Fiats). There the famed social center, Gabrio will host our bikesexual projections.

They have arranged for our show to be hosted in the center at the city's most historic squat turned social center turned self-managed public space. Expect a lot, you will get it!

Back in the Saddle: a European bike tour adventure

We are driven to provide the finest, most ethical, human-powered bicycle pornography on Earth!

This Spring and Summer we will accomplish just that!

We have a pretty ambitious schedule as you can see in our future route. Thousands of kilometers traversed by bicycle!

Bike Smut is a celebration of human-powered transportation and sex-positive culture.The content is completely audience generated.No reproductions or DVD's are available, so you must go to a screening to see them.

Films include of variety of representations of human sexuality,entirely created by amateur bike pornographers from all over the world!

This synthesis of transportation and sexuality is everything you could imagine it to be: creative, ethical, aware, explicit, tantalizing, candid, and silly! Since its inception, Bike Smut has toured North America 15 times, and in the summer of 2011 the project completed its first European excursion, playing 63 shows in 21 countries, from Scotland to Turkey. The winter of 2012 took Bike Smut on their first tour south of the border, featuring six shows around Mexico. The Bike Smut Film Festival is now in its 7th year, and the only way to see it is to attend a screening and experience it with others.

Bike Smut is at its heart, a community driven event. Besides the screenings we often coordinate with local groups to host workshops, skill shares, group rides, races, potlucks, and performances.
