There's some heavy hitters of the porn world in this lineup and Bike Smut is honored to be included among them. The issues of art and porn have, largely, been the issues of distribution.  Of the 16 different programs offered this weekend EIGHT of them are directly addressing this issue. 




We don't talk about it very often but Bike Smut has some challenging politics.

Most of the movies that are made for us are not distributed anywhere else. A few of our filmmakers are established pornographers but most at not.  For the kindergarten teachers and the military officers and the nonprofit directors and everyone else whose lives would be ruined if the wrong people saw them in a remotely sexual movie Bike Smut is a rare creative outlet of expression. 


We don't entrust these originally created pornographic films in the hands of just anyone, so we can't just mail copies of the program or send screeners to the media. There has to be a lot of trust and that trust is earned over many years, not given.




So we have to be there in person. But then its a pretty big bikesexual world. How can we be in all the places that ask us? We would like to be able to put our genitals where our mouths are but traveling everywhere by bicycle is difficult and time consuming (trust us, we rode 10k miles across North America and Europe for The Porny Express). We are left with the choice of flight. Which is amazing. If you fly often you could easily not appreciate the marvel of massive jets zooming across the sky. But its also really fucking sad. It takes a lot of Iraqi blood to make that refined jet fuel and just as with the auto industry, the true cost is hidden from us via a mountain of subsidies and deferments as the ecological toll will be paid by the next generation.





So, for our hyper-transportationally aware selves, flying, like consuming meat, should be done infrequently with great appreciation. Will there be another NYC screening in the future? Only the future will tell.  Take it all in while you can!

 Enter the bikesexual way back machine. It is Bike Summer 2001 in Vancouver BC, aka The Summer of VeloLove! An event that rallied all of the self mobilized people of the city to see themselves as more than just a smart mode of transport. They were a people; and they had a voice.

14 years later most of Vancouver has changed! Many parts are uber clean, with brand new condos and sports facilities and barely a trace of the homeless and or native population that has been ousted from their vigil of protesting the Winter Olympics among other actions that exasperate the wealth gap.

Its hard to believe how far Canada has come. 10 years ago BC were all about decriminalized marijuana, affordable health care and gay marriage for everyone. Now that the US is coming on board with these ideals Canada seems to want to move on as if they were bad ideas.

Looking back at the past that could have been is a fun way to pass the time. But It is time we looked forward to that epic time where bikes liberate minds and bodies from their otherwise contained space and we have a proper bikesexual intifada!

Come Again, Alaska, its the Midnight Sunburn!

"Bikes and cussin' and carrying on" - the low key way to infer of a festive time among people who love to love (and hate) on each other! Right up there with tomfoolery and horseplay and a pile of other adjectives for mostly safe fucking around.

This weekend is the 4th annual Midnight Sunburn Bike Polo Tournament! Hosted by the people at Anchorage Bike Polo who on top of a great series of bicycle games, rides and a smattering of pleasureful things will also include the northern most screening of Bike Smut in 2015.

That means epic vistas! Fun fucking rides! Mobile hot tubs! 

• Wear a helmet? Sure! Your protection and your comfort are your business.
• Wear down your opponents? Sure! The abuse you dish out should be equivalent to the pain you can suffer though. Infliction is one thing but this is some old style polo. mallet to mallet, bike to bike, body to body.
• Watching amazing bicycle erotica? Absofuckinlutly! Its gonna be a hell of a party and if our last time out is any indication we expect to we rewarded with a pile of smiles.
   

 We had so much fun last time we have great expectations for the future.  

Come Again, one last time, in Minneapolis!

Its the final screening of Bike Smut and its gonna be a doosie! Last year Minneapolis was one of our best shows! A perfect storm of bureaucracy threatened to shut down one of our favorite venues, The Bedlam Theater.  30 hours before showtime the city of Minneapolis told them there would not be allowed to host Bike Smut! Thankfully its a good community of people working together to make some amazing art happen and the excellent people at Ground Zero decided that the power of the Smut wouldn't be interrupted in Minnesota! Go on we did... and how! With the power of our legs we bike toured from Minneapolis to Montreal to Mexico! Now we have reversed the trend, going counter clockwise and doing it with the power of mass transit, eschewing our ass transit.. for now! Soon we plan to be bike touring again but for now enjoy THE ULTIMATE SCREENING OF BIKE SMUT 8: COME AGAIN!

So it was two years ago at Chicago's 15 year anniversary of Critical Mass in September. After touring the epic ride of 1000s of people claiming the street I found a character who had missed the ride and been stuck in traffic driving into town.

He and his boys all had tall bikes and were making some waves in the small city of Peoria.

"that's great, bikes are winning the big cities but we need more active people fighting for it everywhere!"

In the South there are bastions of bizarre culture. The Notsuoh's of Houston, most of NOLA and Florida still has its own category of weird.

But in Memphis, TN what we hear the most is, "people just don't give a fuck"

This phrase can be used in a variety of settings, although we frequently hear it when people talk about traffic. Taking a drive in a friend's muscle car at midnight a person all in dark colors was walking at a shallow angle across 6 lanes of traffic without much concern or awareness. I saw him/her and said,

"oh shit, that's probably human!" the driver looked up, took evasive action and we didn't commit vehicular homicide. "Whew! that was close"

Taking a ride around I came upon a tattoo parlor. They were giving me the deets on the hood and what nearby action I could find.

"So I ride west then south then west. Sounds pretty easy."

"Yeah, the folks at any of those places will treat ya nice but be careful riding around. I mean really; cause they just don't give a fuck."

Come Again, in June!

What a bikefucking delight! Packing in hundreds of queers, bike punks, film geeks, and community activists into a rather cozy warehouse space in Kansas City, Missouri! We wish all of our first shows in a city could have that degree of appreciation from people we have never met before. There was a line of people walking up to us to thank us for making it happen and we were only 30 min into the show!

 We expect to be sharing a lot of great photos from the Critical Mass bike ride, screening, performances and dance party, but first we gotta go get more of that fine KC lifestyle!
