Sympathy of the Bicycle Devil

We had a 6-month bicycle tour of Europe planned. This weekend we would be sharing Science Friction in Sicily, Italy at "Vieni? - Catania PornFest". We are fortunate, had the trip started a month earlier we could be custody of who knows which state!

This caused us to wonder about those whom weren't as fortunate. How much do we engage with random people that cross our paths? Because as a clever bicycle pornographer once said, "Wandering males can be dangerous." But what of those cast out? Those perpetual wanderers whom bring news and share stories are still out there, still wandering, still trying to find their nourishment.

Public offerings of thoughts and prayers have become taboo (for good reason) but one of Bike Smut's greatest values is that of exploring taboo. So with that in mind we offer those largely empty words in the hopes that somehow, someway when expressed will result in someone, somewhere being given the inclination to whatever kindness they decide they can offer.

And perhaps this will make all the bike-fucking difference.

Bike Smut Intelligentsia

Below learn about our final two screenings in Mexico City:
 Bike Smut Intelligentsia

Bike Smut has always been for the people. Not just the people it serves directly (ie, our audience) but the people that will never know of its existence. We would like to believe that there is some massive Butterfly Effect that filters out of each show, causing the participants to engage with their mobile-sexuality a little differently. The ideals of Joyful Exploration, Shameless Flirtation and Radical Honesty help us find and embrace our desires. Witnessing someone make themselves vulnerable by sharing their fantasies emboldens others and puritanical shame is diminished. We all benefit from this scenario. But while we are very proud of our methods many choose other ways to engage these topics.

Recently a festival was going to invite Bike Smut or a person who has made a culture of encouraging people to photograph bikers without their consent (technically legal in the USA but still sketchy).

We are not one to Yuck another person's Yum but we wish there was a better way. For sure, its not easy. Besides the obvious challenge of racing after a person on a bicycle, just imagining how one might obtain feedback from strangers is difficult enough. "I just took your picture, can I use it in this context" strangely seems even more invasive then just snapping the photo and running. But why? Perhaps because we have trained ourselves to exist in a culture that spends more time begging for forgiveness than asking permission.

Thankfully we don't have to suffer in contemplation the ethics of others. We simply have to live our truth and hope that others are similarly inspired. But we do enjoy the mental exercise so we invite you to take part in a rarely seen side of ours,  Bike Smut's intellectual explorations of bikes and sex.

First this weekend is the North American Anarchist Studies Network (nassn.org). Basically political wonks gathering for what we presume is an opportunity to stoke their own red and black gears. Although our voices might often be drowned out by the capitalist machine when we gather, when we organize our ideas have wheels of their own.

A bunch of intellectuals sharing theories on various political systems may not sound exciting but then you might have gotten accustomed to the yoke of capitalism. If you spend more time wondering how to maximize your net worth than you do dancing I hope you are able to join us for a rousting examination of what bodies will do with given the freedom to move and fuck as they please without concern for compensation.

Fin Du Monde Cyclosessual

NYC Porn Film Fest!

A festival of Porn in New York City? Why yes, this weekend is the NYC Porn Film Festival!

JebusTits, there is so much porn in one room:
  • Bushwick Arts Festival
  • Ryan Sullivan’s ISLAND + panel discussion of barebacking in contemporary porn
  • Katie Rex & panel explores pornography in feminist culture/its positive affirmations in the lives of the performers & viewers
  • The Social Sex Revolution: Cindy Gallop and associates for 2 short talks and a screening of MakeLoveNotPorn.tv
  • Oskur Garcia presents: "Anthropocene" Anarchco-queer-porn curator from Berlin
  • AK Burns & A.L. Steiner's 69-minute sociosexual film about community

  • Porn as a tool to legitimize a visual aesthetic while transforming it into a categorized fetish
  • Mistress Dahlia Rain's introduction to financial domination

  • Dale Cooper presents PIRACY!
  • Bike Smut: Interracial alien orgies, power-tool wielding lesbians, Mexican post-porn saddle squirting
  • Antonio Onio's Loose Holes, A selection of shorts that examine how technology effects sex
  • Max Bernstein presents... Comedians talk about pornography.
  • Gerry Visco & Ron Jeremy present 'The Golden Age of Porn' Screening of the film: JOY + panel discussion

  • Daliah Saper presents Revenge Porn: high profile cases, discuss legal issues & the unstoppable streams of distribution.
  • Furrie Culture & Sex The subculture of Furry involves anthropomorphic animal characters

  • Alfred Bruyas presents "Unkempt" collected pornography by video artists united in their use of noise and mess.

There's some heavy hitters of the porn world in this lineup and Bike Smut is honored to be included among them. The issues of art and porn have, largely, been the issues of distribution.  Of the 16 different programs offered this weekend EIGHT of them are directly addressing this issue.
We don't talk about it very often but Bike Smut has some challenging politics.

Most of the movies that are made for us are not distributed anywhere else. A few of our filmmakers are established pornographers but most at not.  For the kindergarten teachers and the military officers and the nonprofit directors and everyone else whose lives would be ruined if the wrong people saw them in a remotely sexual movie Bike Smut is a rare creative outlet of expression.

We don't entrust these originally created pornographic films in the hands of just anyone, so we can't just mail copies of the program or send screeners to the media. There has to be a lot of trust and that trust is earned over many years, not given.
So we have to be there in person. But then its a pretty big bikesexual world. How can we be in all the places that ask us? We would like to be able to put our genitals where our mouths are but traveling everywhere by bicycle is difficult and time consuming (trust us, we rode 10k miles across North America and Europe for The Porny Express). We are left with the choice of flight. Which is amazing. If you fly often you could easily not appreciate the marvel of massive jets zooming across the sky. But its also really fucking sad. It takes a lot of Iraqi blood to make that refined jet fuel and just as with the auto industry, the true cost is hidden from us via a mountain of subsidies and deferments as the ecological toll will be paid by the next generation.

So, for our hyper-transportationally aware selves, flying, like consuming meat, should be done infrequently with great appreciation. Will there be another NYC screening in the future? Only the future will tell.  Take it all in while you can!

The bell tolls for Philly bikesexuals

Real Talk Philadelphia,

We have raced bikes, showed erotica, watched a car burn... all good times! But no matter how much love i profess for your pretzels, cheezsteaks and massive sculptures of the gates of hell (thx Rodin) I still feel daunted by your lack of brotherly love.

can ya feel the love now?

We have had some amazing times. Our 1st ever team went there in 2008, stranded, after your venue that was so excited to host us said a day before we were to arrive, "Oh, its porn! We can't show that... I thought it was bike porn, like ski porn" But on a whim we walked into a mosaic museum, debated paying the $3 and then noticed the subtle but frequent amount of sex and bike parts on display. A moment later I asked a person who looked like the janitor a couple questions and then he told us we should show our erotic bicycle films right there, that night, and sure enough there we were, in the bowels of Philadelphia's Magic Gardens watching our movies bounce of the glass walls making 1000 points of ‪#‎bikeporn‬ light.

Our last show was 2 years ago with the Porny Express. While Reverend Phil was in the midst of riding his bike from Minneapolis to Mexico the talented Reecy Pontiff sung about falling under the lofty charms of "The Girl on the Tallest Tallbike in Town" to the radical queers. Each year all of the people were beside themselves wanting to bring it back better "next year"

All have failed.

I do not accept the excuse of, "That's hare things are in ___ (name a place)" because they say that everywhere. Your eccentric people are just as unreliable as the next. But still you have a chance. This is the final screening of Bike Smut in Philadelphia. Maybe somehow history will stop repeating itself? Maybe you know someone. Then you could invite them with you to see the LAST EVER screening of Bike Smut in Philly!

As you may know, Bike Smut is in its 9th and FINAL year of touring. But before it is over we are taking a final shot at Philadelphia! It has been two years since Bike Smut: Bike Porn which means you will get to see the best of both our 8th and 9th year of programing!

BEFORE THE SHOW we are putting together a special panel discussion to engage the sexual organ between your ears.

Media Monday: VICE - Culture Blog is Like Others

An open letter to the editors of VICE:

Thank you for publishing an article about Bike Smut, our plucky little, internationally touring, erotic bicycle film festival. Among the torrent of attention-starved independent working artists you chose us to talk about in mostly encouraging terms with your audience.

Credit goes to the author, Josiah Hesse, who took time to learn about Bike Smut and ask good questions, some of which we have never been asked before. He was especially focused on ideas regarding objective sexuals. The research done to explain the condition of being attracted to an object is fascinating and through (although he misused the term fetish*)

Some objects are pretty attractive as they are and certainly deserve some special attention. One of our favorite essays on the topic of bikes and sex came from a recent graduate of Arizona State University who joined the tour for 4 months. She described the love of a bicycle as more pure than any love between a man and woman because of the impossibility of reproduction, whereas when two able-bodied people hump they might have some lizard brain programming that is telling them to make babies, thus sullying the purity of the love. As long as we are are allowing others to guess at the intentions and awareness of reptile-like functions of people we might as well go whole-gay-hog and say that even between two same-sexed people it is possible that there might be some reproductive programming going on. "But," she would remark in a particularly assertive tone, "human-bicycle relations is only for pleasure."

We never bothered to tell her that for many, cycle-relations are more "business" but we also are also not the right people to make that call. After EIGHT YEARS of sharing DIY pornography across the hemisphere we have somewhat lost the distinction between business and pleasure.

No, for the most part the article was great. We do take umbrage with the title which currently reads as such:

There's a Film Festival for People

Who Get Turned on by Bicycles

However if you were to look at the URL you can see when they originally posted the article the title was a little more "edgy":

Bike-Smut-is-the-Festival-for-

Pedalphilic-Bicycle-Bangers

Neither title is accurate. "Bike Smut is for people..." yes that much is true. Aroused by bicycles? Sure,  maybe... why not. But really even that feels too limiting. It's not as if we expect everyone in the audience to regularly masturbate to Independent Fabrication catalogues (although they are quite nice).

We regularly hear from audience members who were dragged to the show by their friends. They wait around, eager to speak with our organizers to say "Thank you! I don't even like bikes!" And that is one of the biggest compliments we receive, right up there with, "Thank you! I don't even like porn!"

Modern living encourages us to carve out a special little niche where only the like-minded enter into your news-feed's timeline but this is so boring. The challenge of engaging ideas that are bold and run counter to what you believe - that's exciting! When we get put on our ass and learn that even after revolving around the sun dozens of times we still cannot escape the shining illumination of a new Truth.

Yes, bikes are sexy.**
Yes, porn should be better.***
Yes, your choices about porn and transport have an affect on the world and regardless of what naysaying scenesters might write to justify their own lack of gumption, you actually can make your personal space and thus the community you engage with better by riding a bike and/or adopting sex-positive practices.

In an ideal world the article would mention our upcoming call for submissions for our 9th year of "banging pedalphiles." Or our success presenting movies from so many different filmmakers. We have received nearly 100 films from various artists and shared them approximately 500 times and never had a single leak of our content. We don't put the films online and we don't take your body and try to sell DVDs making you into freak show. This is our promise to our filmmakers. This way anyone can contribute to our project without fear of being outted as a pervert or having to explain one's choices to judgmental relatives over holiday dinner.

But more importantly, the ideals of good sex and good transportation are so important to good living that we spend most of our lives in pursuit of one of the other (or both at the same time). Look at the amount of money spent on advertising cars; look at the way sex is used to sell everything! Once a person has claimed their own mobility and sexuality they have no concern of the opinions of bastards who work late trying to find new ways to convince others to buy shit they don't need by lowering vulnerable people's self-esteem.

Any of these would have been an exciting ideas for the article to focus on. But just getting keeping eyeballs on the screen for a few extra seconds seems like an impressive accomplishment and we can't blame them for wanting to sensationalize...  but after years of avoiding other similar media exposé we were hoping VICE might dig deeper into our politics than where some people choose to put their genitals.

So thanks to VICE editors for helping to share the words "Bike Smut" even if you didn't quite have the time, space or mental patience to actually get beyond the sophomoric part of putting a saddle up your butt.

----------------------------------------------------
There's an important distinction to make between the fetishization of an inanimate object (merely using it to get off), and seeing that object as an entity unto itself that inspires love and connection in a person. - Josiah H.
The meaning of the word "fetish" has been diluted over the years to basically being on par with "having an interest in" which is pretty milquetoast compared to its more historical definition where a person would only be described as suffering from a fetish if they absolutely needed said object/activity to achieve sexual satisfaction. A person who likes smelling bike saddles would not qualify as a fetish unless that saddle was always under nose during sex. Okay, we can stop being so annoying... for now.

** self mobilization is hot. dependency is not.
*** watching bad porn encourages pornographers to make bad porn.

Indepndence Fucking Day

Like so many of our over-privileged brethren, Bike Smut takes to the streets today expressing some of the more iconic values that have come to represent us.

Its violent consumption/explosion day!
aka Binge-n-Purge Red, White and pYouke

On this day of epic BBQ and phosphorus our carnage and rendering of flesh is only stalled by our need to abbreviate the land we claim as our own (the entirety of the Western Hemisphere).

The growing focus of any relevant topic quickly becomes reduced to tabloid-style personal drama. For example the recently the focus on former NSA employee,  Snowden's love life rather than the "treason" of telling the American people how the government agency he was working for was violating our constitutional rights. Ashton Kutcher may have said "Dude, where is my car?" but in reality he was saying, "Dude, where is my attention span?"

And although we think of ourselves as a fiercely independent (and yet loyal?) "army of one" it is common that we are much more fiercely concerned with how we are perceived by others. This backlash from the busybody nature of our society, plus the fear-mongering daily news, has resulted in people in the US being more fearful of our neighbors than ever.
So on this day of unparallelled freedom of expression we are left assuming the continual erosion of our constitutional rights will follow leading eventually to the entire breakdown of the government into a collection feudal city-states.

Some say write letters to your representative.
Some say buy guns and Booze.
Both are fine ways to comfort yourself.
We say, meet your neighbors and organize locally. You may find the results to be more fulfilling.

Love of Mystery finds a bike between yr thighs

Do you feel sexy when you are riding your bike? The wind in your hair, the sun at your back, heavy breathing, something hard and tubular between your legs...
So sayeth the Love of Mystery, aka Erin who frequently journals her opinions and experiences regarding sexuality "from a life affirming place and for activism".  Which sounds about perfect to us.*

In the article, Erin encourages readers to create their own short, erotic movie for our upcoming 7th annual program "The Porny Express" and we are treated to some hot bicycle imagery direct from the author:
That evening I thought about how fun and it would be to shoot something involving riding my bike to the farmers market and buying vegetables while secretly enjoying a butt plug.
We are not sure this isn't happening often. Now that we have toured in 23 different countries with such a diverse collection of ideas about how to get on and off bikes it seems all too likely that there have been a number of people who have enjoyed their dirty secret in public.

I imagine a world where all people are able to be liberated from the social mores of the past and be follow their internal drives while respecting and loving one another.
Amen sister. We hope you will enjoy this article and more writing from the Love Of Mystery blog!

There's not much time left, make some sweet bicycle erotica today!

*Is it possible to engage in sex-positive and/or bicycle culture without being an activist? Possibly, but for the time being we will give the 24-hr party people a pass as long as they are doing it in the road.

Consent Is Sexy - The NSFW Trailer

Perhaps you saw it on Queer Porn Tube already, or maybe someone was Tweeting or FaceCracking about it or maybe you are a regular on FleshBot (they wrote about this a week ago already!), if so this might not be that exciting, but if not hold on for the most graphic and consensual trailer of bike fucking porn you have ever seen!

Active consent is the hallmark of those striving for sex-positivity, but just those terms are seriously challenging. What do those words mean? Moreover who is to define what "sex-positive" is and what is not? Seemingly it is easier to talk about it in similar terms as art, in that "we know it when we see it". The same goes for the opposite, as in Mr. Burns' classic line, "I don't know art, but I know what I hate."

Most porn is attempts to create the insane ideal of easy sex without strings or worry. To appease that most primal, lizard-brain parts of our existence. It is a fantasy but when mass producers of hardcore, "Hi, my name is Dick-In-Your-Ass" porn are the only voices heard, immediate gratification is a nightmare.

This is something we touched on years ago when we first heard about Make Love Not Porn.  We live in a society with a generation of kids whose parents do not want to engage in awkward conversations about sex and whose health programs are under attack by puritanical "abstinence only" sexual fear mongers. Thus these youth are learning about sex from the only available source.

Rather than blame mass produced porn for being mass produced porn, Cindy Gallop wisely decrees our need for more diverse voices to put all these ideas into context. Because there are ways to have sex where you don't rudely shove your phallus up a butthole, then into a mouth to then jizz on their face... but it would seem kids these days might not know they have an alternative to this kind of interaction. Thus the importance of sharing your desires with your lovers and your community! If you want active consent  (and things that go with it like intolerance to rape culture) to be a more common part of your life and the lives of your friends you should share these ideas!

Bike Smut is just one way to get this kind of great ideas into a community, but there are dozens of other site that feature words, pictures, and videos of excellent sex-positive intentions, perfect for learning more about.

Crash Pad Series - inclusive queer porn
Miss Maggie Mayem - radical words to challenge any dogma on sex, drugs
Indie Porn Revolution - artsy, entertaining, all-inclusive, and totally DIY.
Girlfriend Films - mainstream lesbian porn by lesbians for lesbians

Did we miss anything? How about the dick?!? We have noticed a curious lack of homosexual, sex-positive activity out there. We have a delightful plethora of cunt on display at Bike Smut this year and have been trying to get more homosexual activity included in our program. Does anyone out there in the vastness of the nets know of a good website with lots of sex-positive homosexual male action? We don't want to leave anyone out but we have been told that "biking is totally gay" most of our lives, and yet...

Please leave your thoughts and suggestions in the comments below, thanks!

Turning TriXXX in New Orleans

You say you love bikes.
You say you love porn.

But you complain that we are not giving these things to your right now...

Hey, Big Easy there fella, there is enough amazing bicycle erotica to go around, but we need your help. We often hear from people like you weeks or even days after a show. "Why didn't you tell me you were putting the fun between your legs!?!?"

We hear it all the time; and that is because some people are still feeling shame about sharing these ideas. For many, it is not (yet) considered casual conversation to inform your extended family-types about the immediacy of radical, DIY porn. Porn that cranks the gears between your ears and your thighs.

We are proud to share such porn with you. We are coming close to you and all you have to do is help ask for it. But until we gather, please let someone you care about know about it.

Media Monday: ReBirth of a Bikesexual Nation

Back in September we learned about how a new bikesexual advocate started the process of cycling became less painful and more pleasureful especially to one woman's yoni.

This time we go from the personal experience of how one person's crotch came to better know her saddle, to the shared experience of actually watching pornography together in a dark room with other consenting adults:
When I first saw Bike Smut 6: Turning TriXXX in late June, I swooned. It was my second time watching porn in public, in a theater full of people, and I was thrilled. Titillated. Energized. Inspired. I've already told you about 2012 being the summer I discovered my bikesexuality. Seeing Bike Smut as part of Portland's legendary three-week-long Pedalpaloopza extravaganza was most certainly a catalyzing element in my blossoming bikelove.

Read the entire bit of bike love here! She is talented and aware so peruse the other musings from Marissa Black here!

Getting Lyrical in FoCo

The fine folks at the Lyric Cinema Cafe in  Ft. Collins were motivated to write a story about what it means to be "adult"

As a public venue, we get a lot of strange encounters on a pretty regular basis.  A few years ago we had an especially colorful character came in seeking out an enjoyable movie-going experience.  He was an elder man, with no more than four or five teeth in his mouth (the rest must have been around somewhere), rainbow striped suspenders (ala Mork), an Elmo t-shirt, large glasses about as thick as my thumb and a ball cap with extra long bill, I'm sure for added effect.  He was very nice, but clearly indifferent to which movie he wanted to see.  So I steered him in the direction of "Let The Right One In", which he seemed to think was a suitable title, and headed into the wrong theater.  He seemed eager to see anything, so I didn't bother to re-direct him.

After about ten minutes he came back out and asked in a wet gummy drawl what was playing in the theater he had just exited.  I said it was "Two Lovers" to which he looked at me and the customer I was talking to at the time with a toothless sneer of confusion and headed to the other theater.  He switched theaters two or three times before he decided the bathroom was a far superior sitting area for 10 minutes.  When he finally came out, and in his thick tongued accent asked what "I've Loved You So Long" was about, I thought another tooth was going to fall out in disappointment when I told him it was a french drama.  "So, are you guys an adult theater then?" he asked.  To which the customer I was conversing with went beat red, holding back his laughter. "We play movies for adults, yes." I answered. "No, I mean ADULT."  I kept playing dumb for a bit until he spat out what he was getting at....literally.  And that, my friends is why these theaters don't exist anymore....UNTIL NOW!  This weekend we are bringing smut back to the large-ish screen with BIKE PORN.  So bring an extra box of kleenex and a poncho, we'll get extra mop heads and have a great time!

We are bringing the joy to our last show in Colorado tomorrow! Then it is on to Bozeman, MT!! w00t!

Birth of a Bikesexual Nation

Marisa Black has been a frequent and popular writer for Dodson and Ross for some time. This summer she decided to take her transportation in her hands, not knowing exactly where it would deliver her spirits.

Getting my crotch accustomed to the pressure was a challenge. But in a surprisingly short period of time, long stints became much easier, even pleasurable, on my tender bits.

But that is just the beginning of a fabulous Bike Sexual tale that deserves to be heard and shared the world over! Click here to hop in the saddle!

Certainly my love affair with Dawn the Bike includes sexual aspects. Being physical and exerting myself increases my feeling of residing inside my body, ramping up my already-high libido. The vibration of turning wheels travels through the frame and makes my vulva quiver. That long, sustained, self-created vibe in my cunt leaves me abuzz. The edge of the saddle pressing against my lips elicits a quiet smile. Just the thought of time on my bike causes my thighs to twitch and my groin to contract. Being on my bike, my beloved Dawn, has become a highly erotic activity.

Exciting verbiage, but little can compare with this closer!

"The sense of capability, of taking myself where I want to go, by my own power, is beyond the literal aspects of linear movement. Bicycling is capable empowerment. I can do this. I can go places. I can take myself there. My body is a vehicle of transformation"
 SO AWESOME!

thnaks Ms Black!

Media Monday: Erections are What's Up

Our desk is cluttered with sometimes insightful, hilarious and all too frequently, time consuming media. What is a bicycle pornographer about to end the Call For Submissions to do?

RING EM UP!

Sometimes folks say: "I get the porn, but why bikes? Why not chairs, or vibrators?"
To which I reply: "A bike is a chair AND a vibrator"

What they really wanna know is, why makes bike culture better than anything else you could do with your time. That question is a little more challenging. There is a lot of amazing things going on out there  but we frequently are very impressed with the resourcefulness of Bike Punks.

We don't mind fancy-pants bike events (although paying to ride seems as intuitive as driving to the corner store... have you tried the alternative? NOT PAYING?) but having a group struggle a little for their art/play makes us all enjoy it a little more than just handing over $35 and getting a t-shirt full of sponsors at the end.*

Take for example our Bike Smut hosts in Graz, Austria. They didn't have money for an indoor race track, so they built one... actually they built several, in their own homes.

The story is a little more complicated than that, but everyone enjoyed the process and time trial indoor racing so much that they have been doing it pretty regularly now for over a year. Here are some SFW pics of the riders.

We at Bike Smut are hardly exclusionary, but we are getting more selective in our age. Still if someone is not willing to try another culture's art because 'what is the point of exploration?' you can just about assume that this person will have an answer for everything and they all result in this person being right without failure. That's nice for the Fox News mindset, but being able to be challenged and come away from something with a new angle that's why we learn and do new things!

Speaking of learning new things this graphic website is fill of interesting, if not very useful info on sex. Sometimes their facts are humorous, sometimes scandalous, (it is the internet, after all) but generally they are shoulder shruggingly unimportant. More interesting then their fact that Miami has the longest sex of any US city and that Denver Phoenix or Chicago have the shortest, is that the entire difference is only 9 min. WHOA, you mean people have sex for more than 9 min!?! AMAZING

This June is a little more sane for us, we only have THE FINAL FINAL SCREENING OF THE ORGASM TRAIL ... EVER

Vancouver Friday June 22nd, which would be monumental in its own right but just a week later is

THE WORLD PREMIERE OF BIKE SMUT 6: TURNING TRIXXX
at the Clinton St Theater in Portland, Oregon

Go ahead, freak out a little, just save some for us.
