Carbon Life vs Silicon Valley. The Last Ever Bike Smut in SF

Time to Back that Bay up! We got a hard drive in our bike shorts and we know where to put it

This Cinco de Mayo (5/5) will be the last ever presentation of Bike Smut in San Francisco!
Our last ever show in LA is just two days later!

SF is where an extraordinary number of cultural bicycle phenomenon has its origin. Specifically there are two major events that overlap their idealism of decentralized organization and helped Bike Smut grow and disseminate across the planet.

#1 Critical Mass
The world's largest, most common and least centrally organized group ride. It was originally called "Commute Clot" but it seems the original organizers were again ahead of the times realizing that alliteration has its downsides, an awareness we hope to never need negotiate. For those who are uninitiated it has helped connect bicycle enthusiasts around the world. The ride had a substantial effect on cities, not just because cycling is cool but because making space for humans transforms how a city feels.

In fact Critical Mass was so important, so formative that we made a feature-length documentary about its effect and why it no longer exists in Portland, the most active city for bicycle culture. Aftermass is a fascinating exploration of a community taking back the streets in the face of brutal, militaristic actions and illegal spying via the Portland Police Bureau. Thankfully Critical Mass still happens in San Francisco on the last Friday of the month: Friday, April 29th!

#2 Bike Summer
Local bike groups worked together to create and inspire their respective communities (roadies, commuters, wonks and whathaveyou) to host rides, workshops, potlucks and really anything that could involve traveling from point A to B on a bike. This took some organizing but the results were immediate. A new community would be born with awareness of itself. Before there was only awkward glances while waiting at traffic lights but now there was the impetus to engage and celebrate and support. Each year a month of events in a North American city helped galvanize the locals and each year the locals would look around after a month of delirious bike-fun people would realize Bike Summer was about to end and ask the question, "We don't have to stop doing this do we?"

From SF to Vancouver BC, to Chicago, to Portland, to New York City, to (almost) Seattle, to Los Angeles and on! We are unsure if Bike Summer still exists but we recently spoke to people in New South Wales, Australia about them hosting something similar in the future (making

But even if BikeSummer never officially happens again it has already inspired many reoccuring events around the world including Chicago's Bike Winter which has been doing it since the end of the 20th century, the short lived MiniBikeSummer, which has since morphed into the month long mindfuck of bike events that is Pedalpalooza, (last year there was 300 events in 24 days) and one of our personal favorites: MiniBikeWinter, where all good ideas go to die:

This event which was cofounded by revphil and has been organized by Zoobomb every dead president's weekend for 12 years; because you don't need dead presidents for free fun... but you should consider health care.

These events were seminal to the founding of Bike Smut. Not only did they help install our film festival with excellent values (creating space for others to share challenging ideas... seems more radical than ever) but more crucially Critical Mass and Bike Summer helped form a bikesexual culture around the world that contributed to Bike Smut. The ideals of the xerocracy, egalitarianism, and DIY all made it easier for artists to feel comfortable by being supported in their respective social groups. These principles help challenge the status quo norms and are essential to building healthy communities to replace the patriarchal dependence, shame and discouragement that comes when we don't take control of our mobility or sexuality.

Bike Smut as a touring film festival is ending with this, our final program.

Lets help these ideas flourish for the next generation

Crafy Handmade Fetish Ware

Last year we showed an amazing film (a couple actually) from Montreal. In Brazen Saddles, an all female bike gang tore around the city, going wherever their hearts desired. They lured and captured a bike cop and then the audience was oft heard to scream, "Fuck the Police!"

In this amazing movie the gang all wore handmade bike tube and tire vests that looked stunning. Many people would ask about the vests after the show. Finally you can own your own piece of bikesexual fetish ware made by real Montreal bikesexuals, Oxyd Creations!

Bike Smut is proud of the hand crafted wares made by our filmmakers and community. Its rare that such items can be made available to the general community. Below is the creator's description of her handmade bike tube harness.

This adjustable, vegan strap-on harness is made with love for our beautiful queer community.

I designed this harness after feeling frustrated with a lack of affordable, eco-friendly, and quality harnesses available on the market. The harness is lined with soft black felt, which overlaps onto the front so the edges are all soft as well. There is a cotton canvas between the felt and the bike tube exterior to make the harness more solid. And the exterior is made from recycled bike tubes, from Montreal's bicycle co-ops. The tubes are easy to clean, and the straps, which are bare tube against the skin, grip well to your curves while still being soft and comfortable. I thought I would need to line the adjustable straps with felt too, and was surprised to find that the tubes felt great against bare skin.

The harness can be adjusted to fit any size - there are adjustment rings in the front and back. The straps are really long - you can cut them shorter when your harness arrives, or wear them tucked in, as pictured in the first photo. If you usually wear XS size pants, I will ask you for your exact measures, just in case I have to make the harness a little smaller.
Your toy is held in place with a silver o-ring in front, which is easily removable with snaps. The harness comes with two sizes of rings - 3.9cm and 5.2cm (inner diameter).

The back of the harness is decorated with recycled bike chain and a gear - if you'd prefer not to have this detail, I can leave it out. It adds weight, but isn't sharp.

And finally! This harness can be turned upside down and worn as a bad-ass underbust corset top, as shown in the last photo. What I'm really hoping for is that someone bolder than me will wear this on a night out, and then when that cute person you've been eyeing all night compliments your sexy top, you invite them home to show them what else it can do.

Come Again, Canada... One Last Time

We are back in Vancouver BC with our final screening of
Bike Smut 8: Come Again!

Due to travel schedules we had to postpone this screening until July; Vancouver demanded to share the amazing videos from Montreal, Oakland, Chicago, Phoenix and San Palo one last time!

Thursday July 23
The Rio Theatre - 1660 E Broadway

Enter the bikesexual way back machine. It is Bike Summer 2001 in Vancouver BC, aka The Summer of VeloLove! An event that rallied all of the self mobilized people of the city to see themselves as more than just a smart mode of transport. They were a people; and they had a voice.

14 years later most of Vancouver has changed! Many parts are uber clean, with brand new condos and sports facilities and barely a trace of the homeless and or native population that has been ousted from their vigil of protesting the Winter Olympics among other actions that exasperate the wealth gap.

Its hard to believe how far Canada has come. 10 years ago BC were all about decriminalized marijuana, affordable health care and gay marriage for everyone. Now that the US is coming on board with these ideals Canada seems to want to move on as if they were bad ideas.

Looking back at the past that could have been is a fun way to pass the time. But It is time we looked forward to that epic time where bikes liberate minds and bodies from their otherwise contained space and we have a proper bikesexual intifada!

more than a sausage fest in Hamburg

When we first came to Hamburg it was quite a frantic mess. We didn't know the city or anyone living here. Somehow we ended up screening at a perfect venue with an amazing fun audience and a fabulous party ensued.

We weren't sure if we would be able to return but it seems fate is into fucking bikes.

TONIGHT!

Sicily, What a Fucking Island

What a fabulous time on the island of Sicily!

A micro vacation in paradise with loads of hot bikers and perverts? We accept!

The Catania Bike Festival was a massive and well organized. With loads of bike events in a large park overlooking the Centro we had 3 days of spectacular views, races, activities, bike polo, entertainment, Critical Mass and of course bici porno!

They have some great people there working together to make great things happen. Zeronove, for example, is a grand bike shop / venue / culture gathering spot. Catania is lucky to have them.

Among the great things Catania has going for it include Europe's largest active volcano, Mt. Etna. Dwarfing Mt. Tabor (Portland's own volcano), Mt Etna covers an area 1506 times as large. Where you can ride the circle on top of Tabor in less than 60 seconds our circumnavigation of Etna took about 10 hours, alternating from pavement, to gravel, to sand, to wooded paths, to boulders, to expansive lava flows and back to pavement. But if the surface was varied the climate was constantly changing! On our circumnavigation our elevation was mostly between 1,500 and 2,200 meters and we got no shortage of weather. Full sun, driving rain, sleet, snow, and brisk winds so strong I found myself braking on an incline! After traveling and biking for so many years you start to think you have seen it all, then you realize you are accelerating beyond your comfort going uphill and you haven't pedaled in the past 30 seconds. That was different.

say "lesbian"

in the distance, mainland Italy

It took a little be of figuring out but we got a last minute show in Palermo. We do mean last minute. We found out about a show at Taverna Bukowski and asked to be added to the schedule the day before. An hour after the show was over we were on a ferry heading north to Genova to continue our Bicycle Fucking Tour d' Italia!

Can we bring more bikesexual excitement to Italy? YES WE CAN!

Did you know that Bike Smut is totally bi?

With the self-crowned Bike Smut Queen, Miss Poppy Cox living in Europe Bike Smut is totally Bi-continental. She could not allow the people of Berlin to continue to suffer without inspiring films of human powered sexuality so she brought The Porny Express to the Porn Film Festival in October and now she is mixing it up again, this time in the United Kingdom!
