exploit bikes for fun, not profit

BIKESEXUAL ALERT! ARE YOU SHIRKING YOUR DUTY TO YOUR OWN DESIRE??!?

Its not just a casual concern. We are feeling it too. There is so much stress and horror available without end. Our revolutionaries are not operating at their full capacity if they are not keeping their own fires stoked at home. So please try to answer the question: are you making space for the development of your mobilized, sexualized self?

Moreover, is this the crap Santa delivers when we neglect to actually ask for things we want?

It could just be another sign of the coming apocalypse (there are many, we know) but it could be a sign that you and we and everyone are letting bastards win. Whenever the d-bags, like Logan Paul have their way with pop culture they usually take something as beautiful and inspiring as the song "Handlebars" and pervert it into an vapid reason boost their fragile ego. So if we don't react to the inherent objectification with derisive scorn we end up letting our pure bikesexual waters become tainted and tho Bike Smut may be slowing down (... a lot) that shaln't happen on our watch!

For the appropriate background here is the original video by Flobots

And since modern culture eats sentiment and shits piles of post-digested manure, here is the cis/white/hetero/male scat you have been fearing was being squeezed out:

But we are not content to just be casual observers of media. We got a fucking degree in this shit and worked print, broadcasting, street media, trade journal, industries. We get to take a swift crack at this cracker's ass.

WHAT DOES THIS VIDEO REALLY MEAN?

does it mean that Paul:
- can ride a bike without handlebars, although it never once happens in the video?
- can have sex without using his hands? A subliminal request for bondage?
- can ride a woman with a smaller mustache than him?
- can inspire women to throw off their patriarchal burdens by standing up for themselves?
- gets punched in the mouth so often he is secretly advocating for dental health?

Thankfully, rather than let this trash go on unaddressed the Flowbots provided their own retort:

So here is our  New Years resolution: To be thankful for our awareness of the radical, independent media that already exists! There's lots of it out there and we love it! We enjoy the Intercept and Democracy Now almost every day. Partly because they keep us reminded that some media outlets are not paid for by corporations that benefit from endless war.

We believe most people actually desire this kind of truth but are frequently overwhelmed by the never ending torrent of crap that is shoved down our collective throats. We can all do better and engage in more uplifting media that if it punches at all, it punches up!
(also, this really was posted on a Media Monday, which hasn't happened in years so there's something else to be thankful for)

NOTE: there is a good chance that Bike Smut will travel to Australia in February. Finally making the Pacific Rim Job Tour a reality and one step closer to world domination.

Cops, Violence & Porn: Peeling Back the Chamois

Happy news day to us! Bike Smut has had a few excellent media moments, basking in the sunshine of GQ Italy, being on the front page of Malmo, Sweeden's daily paper, and an excellent article in a publication in Spain. But while all of these are great for their own reasons lightning has just struck twice for one talented writer who intrinsically "get it"

Cops, violence & porn, Rachel Elizabeth Jones of Seven Days peels back the chamois.
(this is not the actual title, but it probably should have been because unlike in every other previous media engagements this was not the first time Bike Smut talked with this writer.

For the 2nd time Ms Jones has stepped up to the plate for Bike Smut and also the 2nd time she has knocked it out of the park. Her 1st article appeared in Bone Shakers Magazine in 2012, covering the fabled "Orgasm Trail" a choose-your-own-bikeporn-adventure.  It has long since sold out (Bones Shakers is an excellent publication; you should definitely subscribe to it) but the archive PDF is free here (go to pages 34-39, then read the rest) so you can see the article and also some fantastic photographs from Bike Smut in Madrid, Spain; Graz, Austria; Tucson, Arizona; Lyon, France and Bucharest, Romania (whew! that was a good tour!)
Bike Smut takes bike culture and the fetishization of the bicycle deeper than ever. Reverend Phil’s call for “better transportation and better sex” is irresistible, as are the Bike Smut pillars: joyful exploration, shameful flirtation, and radical honesty – after all, shouldn’t social change be orgasmic? Follow the tour here.
A shorter version of that boneshaker article is also still available on the Creosote Journal's website

This photoshoot is a recreation of original art drawn for our "Bikexploitation" Tour

Now Ms Jones is back! Due to her previous masterful handling of the topic we gave her more intimate access to our founder, Reverend Phil* for a more serious chat about the history of this plucky film and performance festival.

At first glance, Bike Smut could be easily dismissed as trite, and a mere distraction. We don't mind idea from individual viewers so much. There are a lot of ideas about sexuality and mobility (hello wheelchair porn!) presented during a show and viewers who want to think about them can. Those who want to just enjoy it as something silly and playful can do that too. Not every bit of artistic media has to have such complex flavors that challenge the mind. Sometimes you just wanna ride your bike and that's good enough.

We are not even that bothered by lazy media. We know how difficult writing can be and doing it under impossible deadlines can make for some slapdash work.  No what we really bristle at is manipulation of ideas to fit a perceived audience.  Our noble efforts can be easily twisted to appear as a freak show either by editors with an agenda (looking at you Vice!Mag). This is the kind of click bait that leaves readers feeling duped and wanting to avoid engagement altogether. Its an impossible scenario. Good journalism has been devalued in favor of high volumes of vapid stories and writers so often told that exposure will make up for the lack of actual compensation that doing good work has become a virtual impossibility.

Thankfully some writers care a little more,  dig a little deeper and the results show. In this article Ms Jones shows some of the challenges to running an ethical porn film festival on no budget and why it sucks being Tazered and arrested and prosecuted days before a World Premiere is a rough way to start things. Many of our strongest political leanings are not explicitly commented on but simply made into the structure of Bike Smut. Bike Smut's form of distribution, our not distaste for abuse of power, or the drive to keep our footprint (or tire tread, if you will) as small as possible while still having a significant impact!

Bravo to Ms Jones! Please tweet at the fabulous writer of TWO of the best articles ever written about Bike Smut:

* whose stories can verge on the epic... either being unbelievably overwhelming or just too fucking long

Media Monday: VICE - Culture Blog is Like Others

An open letter to the editors of VICE:

Thank you for publishing an article about Bike Smut, our plucky little, internationally touring, erotic bicycle film festival. Among the torrent of attention-starved independent working artists you chose us to talk about in mostly encouraging terms with your audience.

Credit goes to the author, Josiah Hesse, who took time to learn about Bike Smut and ask good questions, some of which we have never been asked before. He was especially focused on ideas regarding objective sexuals. The research done to explain the condition of being attracted to an object is fascinating and through (although he misused the term fetish*)

Some objects are pretty attractive as they are and certainly deserve some special attention. One of our favorite essays on the topic of bikes and sex came from a recent graduate of Arizona State University who joined the tour for 4 months. She described the love of a bicycle as more pure than any love between a man and woman because of the impossibility of reproduction, whereas when two able-bodied people hump they might have some lizard brain programming that is telling them to make babies, thus sullying the purity of the love. As long as we are are allowing others to guess at the intentions and awareness of reptile-like functions of people we might as well go whole-gay-hog and say that even between two same-sexed people it is possible that there might be some reproductive programming going on. "But," she would remark in a particularly assertive tone, "human-bicycle relations is only for pleasure."

We never bothered to tell her that for many, cycle-relations are more "business" but we also are also not the right people to make that call. After EIGHT YEARS of sharing DIY pornography across the hemisphere we have somewhat lost the distinction between business and pleasure.

No, for the most part the article was great. We do take umbrage with the title which currently reads as such:

There's a Film Festival for People

Who Get Turned on by Bicycles

However if you were to look at the URL you can see when they originally posted the article the title was a little more "edgy":

Bike-Smut-is-the-Festival-for-

Pedalphilic-Bicycle-Bangers

Neither title is accurate. "Bike Smut is for people..." yes that much is true. Aroused by bicycles? Sure,  maybe... why not. But really even that feels too limiting. It's not as if we expect everyone in the audience to regularly masturbate to Independent Fabrication catalogues (although they are quite nice).

We regularly hear from audience members who were dragged to the show by their friends. They wait around, eager to speak with our organizers to say "Thank you! I don't even like bikes!" And that is one of the biggest compliments we receive, right up there with, "Thank you! I don't even like porn!"

Modern living encourages us to carve out a special little niche where only the like-minded enter into your news-feed's timeline but this is so boring. The challenge of engaging ideas that are bold and run counter to what you believe - that's exciting! When we get put on our ass and learn that even after revolving around the sun dozens of times we still cannot escape the shining illumination of a new Truth.

Yes, bikes are sexy.**
Yes, porn should be better.***
Yes, your choices about porn and transport have an affect on the world and regardless of what naysaying scenesters might write to justify their own lack of gumption, you actually can make your personal space and thus the community you engage with better by riding a bike and/or adopting sex-positive practices.

In an ideal world the article would mention our upcoming call for submissions for our 9th year of "banging pedalphiles." Or our success presenting movies from so many different filmmakers. We have received nearly 100 films from various artists and shared them approximately 500 times and never had a single leak of our content. We don't put the films online and we don't take your body and try to sell DVDs making you into freak show. This is our promise to our filmmakers. This way anyone can contribute to our project without fear of being outted as a pervert or having to explain one's choices to judgmental relatives over holiday dinner.

But more importantly, the ideals of good sex and good transportation are so important to good living that we spend most of our lives in pursuit of one of the other (or both at the same time). Look at the amount of money spent on advertising cars; look at the way sex is used to sell everything! Once a person has claimed their own mobility and sexuality they have no concern of the opinions of bastards who work late trying to find new ways to convince others to buy shit they don't need by lowering vulnerable people's self-esteem.

Any of these would have been an exciting ideas for the article to focus on. But just getting keeping eyeballs on the screen for a few extra seconds seems like an impressive accomplishment and we can't blame them for wanting to sensationalize...  but after years of avoiding other similar media exposé we were hoping VICE might dig deeper into our politics than where some people choose to put their genitals.

So thanks to VICE editors for helping to share the words "Bike Smut" even if you didn't quite have the time, space or mental patience to actually get beyond the sophomoric part of putting a saddle up your butt.

----------------------------------------------------
There's an important distinction to make between the fetishization of an inanimate object (merely using it to get off), and seeing that object as an entity unto itself that inspires love and connection in a person. - Josiah H.
The meaning of the word "fetish" has been diluted over the years to basically being on par with "having an interest in" which is pretty milquetoast compared to its more historical definition where a person would only be described as suffering from a fetish if they absolutely needed said object/activity to achieve sexual satisfaction. A person who likes smelling bike saddles would not qualify as a fetish unless that saddle was always under nose during sex. Okay, we can stop being so annoying... for now.

** self mobilization is hot. dependency is not.
*** watching bad porn encourages pornographers to make bad porn.

Willy Wonker and the Obscenity Factory

Recently a particular bicycle pornographer's "wang" was held on high on some other bike related website "above the fold" as it were.

Witnessing the torrent of comments has often been an exciting pastime for those who fully endorse the culture of hating. This proved to different, as some were lauding the lasciviousness while others were judgmental of the junk and those who would share it.

To respond Bike Smut's crack team of investigators spent nearly a quarter-hour trying to capture the image as it was seen on most people's computers.

Did you miss that? We have heard this pornographer's penis might be too small for legal action, but no topic is too small for the determined people who are clearly the only ones "thinking of the children" while reading about bicycle pornography.

To assist those who could not see the 16 x 19 image (so small it, in fact, broke tumbler) our team worked for nearly another eighth of an hour to digitally enhance the #offensivePenis.  If you are reading this on your work computer at work with your boss looking over your shoulder just looking for a reason to fire you then you will probably loose your job in 3, 2, 1, and

Yr fired.

Bike Smut should stop there, but since we are not beholden to the shameful nature of patriarchal society, we are about to share with you an even larger version of this monstrosity. Using the powers of Blogger (whom at this very moment are inventing a new form of technology that will make this blog less accessible) we have expanded this image to nearly its full potential. Were you to ride your bike naked in Portland tonight you might experience this horror...

Nevermind if you are at home or even already masturbating in the bathroom, if you look at this image everyone you know will certainly loose their jobs. You have been warned...

Trying to track the unemployment caused by this event is no small task. Driven to learn about transportation and forced to examine genitalia for hours, the vast number of Portland's "wonks" (aka "transportation advocates") will likely all be unemployed within the hour, but that is not the worst of it. Unemployment could reach an all time high this weekend. The Internet is about to become a flurry of naked bikers as torrents of photos plague the otherwise diligently working population of Portland.

Our economic-bikesexual industry correspondent, Ali Blubal, warned of a potential "end of times" style economic downturn.
We are really flirting with disaster because while sure, those peni and cliteri are flaccid now what happens when they catch a little breeze? Will they stay limp? If not the situation could turn ugly.  or will there be a photograph of We don't know if it will be just a small bump, a serious pothole or if the economy is actually going to plummet into a vast nether regional abyss.

Possibly the only way to turn this situation around would be for the Mayor to declare a state of naked emergency. At that point Charlie Hales would have a few options, he could try to tell the police to use their batons to fight back the erect penises, but a more progressive idea is to actually embrace the penal onslaught. Could hiring all the underemployed photographers jump start the flailing economy?
Perhaps, but we expect the economy to spiral causing more people to give up their jobs, and those people having no money will likely turn to naked cycling for entertainment, which of course will cause more people to loose their jobs. We may witness the end of capitalism before the end of the summer.

Thankfully Bike Smut is about to unveil their 2-step recovery program for those affected by the OffensivePenis. Details are still be worked out but it goes a little like this.

Love of Mystery finds a bike between yr thighs

Do you feel sexy when you are riding your bike? The wind in your hair, the sun at your back, heavy breathing, something hard and tubular between your legs...
So sayeth the Love of Mystery, aka Erin who frequently journals her opinions and experiences regarding sexuality "from a life affirming place and for activism".  Which sounds about perfect to us.*

In the article, Erin encourages readers to create their own short, erotic movie for our upcoming 7th annual program "The Porny Express" and we are treated to some hot bicycle imagery direct from the author:
That evening I thought about how fun and it would be to shoot something involving riding my bike to the farmers market and buying vegetables while secretly enjoying a butt plug.
We are not sure this isn't happening often. Now that we have toured in 23 different countries with such a diverse collection of ideas about how to get on and off bikes it seems all too likely that there have been a number of people who have enjoyed their dirty secret in public.

I imagine a world where all people are able to be liberated from the social mores of the past and be follow their internal drives while respecting and loving one another.
Amen sister. We hope you will enjoy this article and more writing from the Love Of Mystery blog!

There's not much time left, make some sweet bicycle erotica today!

*Is it possible to engage in sex-positive and/or bicycle culture without being an activist? Possibly, but for the time being we will give the 24-hr party people a pass as long as they are doing it in the road.

WHACK!ng it with Bikes!

Presenting the greatest WHACK! since kitty abuse

WHACK! presents Bike Smut
a casually radical interview by Lynsey G

Below is a little taste:

Lynsey G: ... You do hear about women having orgasms on exercise bikes, so I can see there being an actual sexual aspect to the bike itself for some people.
Poppy Cox: Oh yeah. It makes you feel really good. It gets your blood pumping. There’s definitely more than one video or story of girls getting off on bikes, which is pretty awesome. Actually one of our favorite movies, which was made in Brooklyn, is sort of a freak bike that was built… it’s a stationary bike, but it has a big complex bicycle wheel system to make a moving dildo that fucks the person at the other end.
Lynsey G! [laughing] I think I saw that, actually, at the Museum of Sex!
PC: Yeah, it’s definitely on the internet. It’s one of our few films that’s actually on the internet. They call it ‘Fuck Bike #001.’ It’s all in black and white.

The conversation covers topics of distribution and obscenity and prior restraint and goes over some of our more difficult moments bringing better porn to the people.

Later on we found that this sticker we got from Courtney Trouble was actually from Lynsey G. Whoa! Small fucking world.

There’s a tremendous amount of insecurity associated with how we get around. Being able to have more open and honest conversations about our desires will help prevent the bad sexy time and make the good times better and more often!

Media Monday: Fleshbot wants to ride our bicycle...

After our fantastic show in Toronto, we had the pleasure of talking to the delightful Sophie Delancey about Bike Smut and this year's program, Turning Trixxx. And now her thoughts and observations are up on one of our favourite porno-media vehicles: Fleshbot.  Read all about it, right here!

Highlights include: a great compliment to Jessie Sparkles and his movie 'The Bike Wizard'. (Which was  also featured on Fleshbot a few months back!) Plus shout outs to our more seasoned pornographers: Courtney Trouble and Madison Young

And to wrap is all up, she finished with this lovely little statement that makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside:

"Bike Smut is a great primer on indie porn, a great incentive to get on your bike and one of the funniest, sexiest nights I've had in recent memory. "

Thanks again to Toronto, Good For Her, Fleshbot and Ms. Delancy. We hope to see hot bike fucking from Toronto for Bike Smut 7!

Turning TriXXX in Richmond

YES! Our last Two fabulous shows have shattered the previous horror stories about screenings mid Atlantic.  It was so good in fact a veteran sex educator took time to write about it!
It makes perfect sense when you think about it: bodies in motion; the exhilaration of freedom; the stimulation of one’s senses while riding; the fit and flow of clothing by the rider; the positions of riding, peddling, mounting, and dismounting the bike (ahem… “mounting”); the rhythm of the legs and hips; and of course the way the seat presses provocatively against the rider. - read more on Dr. Ruthie's blog!

Both Brooklyn and Washington DC shows were full of hot bodies and both included TWO live performances from local artists. What a treat for us to see a community not just passively accepting our notions, but actively engaging and exploring their own bikesexual ideas via song, dance, photography and spoken word!

This unexpected success is giving us a whole a whole new perspective on finding the joy between our legs in places it never seemed possible! If the challenged venues in the nation's capital can enjoy it, than we might be able to bring two wheeled bikesexual liberation anywhere!

How about Richmond, VA? In the past we have marvelous screenings at the vaunted Byrd Theatre, but since their board of directors learned there was sex involved, Bike Smut has found a new more suitable, underground dwellings in RVA.

Media Monday: Getting Our Bone Shaker On

Presenting the finest in printed bikesexual media

We were immediately taken with the folks in Bristol. From organizing a 24 hour mini bike criterium to  throwing down their own mini bike dance performances by Les VeloBici we got nothing but bike love for those talented artists. On the front lines of graphic images, BoneShaker Magazine helped bring all the joy together.

We felt at home basking in the bikepunk joy of having our organizers craft a crazy, adult-themed, mini-bike playground in the venue where we got to share porn and watch a weekend of excellent performances.

Back home on the US West Coast, we were tickled that writer and up–and–coming  bikesexual Rachel Jones got exposed to our our run of shows around LA and was so motivated by our program, "The Orgasm Trail" that she was determined to help share the good news. But we really got excited when we learned that Boneshaker Magazine would be publishing her article in their rather impressive quarterly publication! Plus it doesn't hurt that Ms Jones was able to evoke the ideas and intentions so passionately!!

Enjoy a sample:
The beauty of Bike Smut is that it asks the big questions – the meaning behind words such as sex, intimacy, fetish, perversion – without distancing itself from the answers. It is doubtful that even the raddest Gender and Women's studies professor or queer theorist could so efficiently provoke impassioned dialogues of activism, feminism, and sexual identities.

Bike Smut's mission statement is simple, to the point of elegance: Spreading the call for better sex and better transportation, we endorse joyful exploration, shameless flirtation, and radical honesty.

Without batting a coquettish eyelash, Poppy [Bike Smut's Creative Director] links the value she places in joy and female sexuality to the bicycle. “In 1850 the bicycle was invented, and women and bicycles have been a huge deal since then. Women weren’t allowed to ride bicycles because it supposedly would turn them on. 'Saddle sniffers' was a big thing. The bicycle changed the way women dressed - bloomers were invented for the bicycle, women could wear pants.

Poppy points me to the work of Susan B. Anthony, our lady of the American silver dollar, who said, “I think the bicycle has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. It gives a woman a feeling of freedom and self-reliance. The moment she takes her seat she knows she can't get into harm unless she gets off her bicycle, and away she goes, the picture of free, untrammeled womanhood." Paraphrasing Anthony, Poppy embellishes, “Women were able to take control of their transportation. Able to explore larger gene pools. Freedom machines!”

Boneshaker Mag is just that. Printed matter (that actually matters). The media is not available online, so we highly encourage you to subscribe. They have their design on lock-down and there are absolutely NO ADVERTISEMENTS, which for a printed publication is about as rare as Bike Smut.

Media Monday: Annie fucking Sprinkle

Stand back for mind-explodingly good news.

The goddess of better porn, Annie Sprinkle is bringing her lush sex garden to Cascadia.

If you were not paying attention to the advancement in good porn over the past few decades you might not know of her fabulous sexploits. Her Public Cervix Announcement helped people understand one of the most mysterious places on Earth.
Cunt-leidoscope
The short resume reads like this: Annie Sprinkle was working in the box office at a theater that was busted for playing Deep Throat; she met the director; sold her body for sex, porn and performance art; wrote some books including "Post-porn modernist: my 25 years as a multimedia whore", she got a PhD in sex and has sense traveled the world sharing art and lecturing on human sexuality.

But being an independent, self-made woman of the world she was not content to just rest on her haunches. What good would it be to live comfortably in a fortress of pleasure if the rest of the planet is burning with unquenched desire? Thus, Annie Sprinkle made it a point to carry on with the sexual healing of the world by fucking the world over; she has just completed a 7 year series of art weddings to the Earth.

People think of the earth as ‘Mother Earth’. But today Earth is so battered, abused, blown-up, exploited, ripped apart and polluted, that she can’t handle the burden of being a ‘Mother’ anymore. It would be better to think of the Earth as a ‘Lover’ because we take care of our lovers instead of expecting them to take care of us.
You can imagine how excited we were to hear that the sex-positive feminist legend was coming to Portland and wanting to partner up with some environmentally forward perverts! That's us! Sweet!

So it is our esteemed privilege to announce Annie Sprinkle is coming in Portland!

Tuesday April 10th
Hollywood Theater - 7:30 - $12
My Life & Work as a Feminist Porn Activist, Radical Sex Educator and Ecosexual, a show and tell lecture covering 40 years of experience in sexual education

In addition to the glory that is Dr Sprinkle attendees will be able to learn about some of the local resources for "Do it better" adult living, including:

The Lotus Heart Center, an an actual building in Portland (so much sex positive stuff is internet only) that offers classes and rentals for events.

Sex Love & Spirit is a meta group of some of the various sex positive groups in Portland. Pretty handy if you are wanting to find a deeper connection without pedals, saddles and grips. They are hosting

As You Like It, a body/environmental/gender-less positive sex store catering to the ethical demands of the most discerning vegan, tree-hugging tranny. Join their founder, Kim on a walking Ecosexual hike down the Clackamas River with Annie Sprinkle which sounds pretty beautiful.

Media Monday, Remembering Munchen

Fuck me, (not just a happy suggestion anymore) we have been getting lots of great press but we are often less than... uh, motivated to write about people who write about people, who show movies by people who think its great to make movies about bikes and sex. It just feels like too much of an abstraction at some point.

Basically, we normally have to be in the right mood, but like any good porn star we are certain we can fake it and you (our generally mute readers) will have to suffer the consequences. And so we have decided that every Monday (cause ya know, it the start of the getting down to business week) we are gonna put on some soothing music, light a few candles, pour a few bottles of wine and yell "SHUT THE FUCK UP, IM TRYING TO WRITE IN MY FUCKING BIKE BLOG" to anyone who comes to complaining about the working conditions in their noisy, dimly lit, smoky cubicle next to mine.

Behold, The Munich (Munchen) Bike Smut News!

What's that? you dont speak German? Bavarian even?!? Well never fear, from our epic view of the internet we have found a special "website" that takes this devil foreign tongue and chops it into easy to consume bite sized chunks of Engrish.

Behold, Google translate

Careful with all that learning you got gong on.  Next week, (assuming we can keep this weekly column working for more than one week) we return to Milan!

aint no Media-ocer Monday

Its a Funderous (pre) Friday!

Thanks to our friends and media partners for helping to bring more sex-positive, transportation-ally-aware art to the people.

Remembering Phoenix

Strange but interesting fact. We have never had two shows in the same venue anywhere south or east of Boulder, Colorado. EXCEPT at the Trunk Space, which despite all odds has been able to provide an excellent venue for obscure/strange/otherwise malnourished touring acts for a decade!

The crowd was a little reserved at first, but soon found themselves moving and dancing together, increasing their bikesexual quotient.

Afterwards the audience chose to mill around and see the art we have to offer. Many thanked us for our dogmatic stance on how we refuse to make DVDs, even for media, meaning that the ONLY place to watch Bike Smut is when it happens in front of a crowd, live!

Our Bike Smut merchandise is as colorful as the people who choose to be adorned in our undies

Must thanks to our friends at  Phoenix New Times who came out to help document the joy we call The Orgasm Trail. Hope to see you again next year!

WWC Loves / Hates Porno Revolution part 3

We love those folks in the Appalachians! They love bikes and they love sex and they expression and they love sharing!

sharing bikes sharing space
It has been just about a month since the students of Warren Wilson College outside Asheville, NC had to pile more than 30 people into a 10x10 room to watch Bike Smut. This obvious fire safety was made necessary due to the schools discomfort with our sharing of independent, DIY transportation erotica, some of which made by residents who were trying to share their rather mature ideas with other consenting adults.

Interesting they intervened with our local student supporters, then let other students use the WWC facilities to show how lame most porn is.
The film criticizes the way pornography, as one of the most profitable cultural mediums, promotes skewed sexual behaviors, particularly through sexism, racism, and violence. The film highlights how this behavior becomes practiced in the viewer of pornography’s private sexual life.
“We’re critical of the way an industry capitalizes and makes films for monetary gain. [Pornographic] films are affecting our sex lives, so in effect profit motive is affecting our sex lives by extension,” said Comstock.

We think its at least a step in the right direction that they are using their public space to talk frankly about sex, porn and the effects on our society. Too bad they couldn't see the forrest from the trees to accept that what we do is precisely that with the added bonus of actual manifestations of how we can DO IT BETTER!

As our former tourista/ and reigning Bike Smut Theoretician, Liberty Sprocket eloquently stated:
We believe that by riding bicycles we take control of our transportation, of how we move
across our communities and interact with them. Bicycles free us from the rigid boundaries of a car. By asking our community to make erotic films, we can help redefine obscenity, and free ourselves from the capitalist ideals of pornography. Bike Smut is about reclaiming agency over our daily lives and defeating the patriarchal appropriation of our bodies.

Be sure talk about it, but dont just talk. Unless you are ready to actually take your sexuality by the handlebars and steer the way you wanna go you are still just talking about getting on a revolution.
